LAFF 2016 Interview with Kim Coates on the Extreme Mayhem of OFFICER DOWNE

Celebrating its world premiere this weekend at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival is the graphic novel adaptation Officer Downe, which was written by Joe Casey (who also wrote the source material) and directed by M. Shawn Crahan, (also known to fans worldwide as “Clown” from Slipknot). The film stars Kim Coates as the titular character: a badass cop unable to die and Los Angeles’ last form of protection from a corrupt future world.

Produced by Mark Neveldine and Skip Williamson, two of the maniacs behind theCrank series, Officer Downe looks to be a balls-to-the-wall actioner that takes no prisoners (pun absolutely intended).

Daily Dead caught up with Coates prior to the film’s premiere to hear more about his experiences taking on the lead role for Officer Downe, collaborating with Crahan on the film, why the world needs more badass movies, and the virtues of playing an immortal character.

Slipknot Interview With Corey Taylor, Interpritation of The Song Killpop

WGRD 97.9 FM radio station in Grand Rapids, Interviewed Corey Taylor of Slipknot.

SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor stated about "Killpop":

"You know, what's funny [is] over the last few weeks, I've really gotten everyone's interpretation of what that song means to them, and it's nowhere near what I wrote about. So it's kind of interesting to hear people's interpretations of what I'm singing about. And I'll be honest with you: the song is my reflection on my relationship with music. That's who the 'she' is. And not just music, but the music industry in general. So there's a love-hate relationship there that really kind of comes into view."

He continued: "There's the old adage, 'Be careful what you wish for,' and, 'Be careful doing what you love, because sometimes it will turn on you.' And, you know, anytime you mix something that you love and business, you're gonna find the rusty cracks in there that piss you off. So that song, really, is about how much I still love making music, but also how much I just hate the business side, the numbers side, the people in the suits who try to run stuff, and having to deal with them and having to learn how to talk to them. And, you know, it's frustrating sometimes, but it is what it is. And luckily, we got a great song out of it, and we were able to really paint something really cool with it and just be able to put it out there for people to dig."

SLIPKNOT's "Summer's Last Stand" tour kicks off on July 24 in West Palm Beach, Florida, wrapping up six weeks later on September 5 in Dallas. Joining SLIPKNOT on the road trip will be LAMB OF GOD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE and MOTIONLESS IN WHITE.

For nearly two decades, the group's nine masked headbangers have been challenging fans with performance-art experiments disguised as concerts, as they slither about the stage and literally set it ablaze. Last year, they put out .5: The Gray Chapter, their first record in six years and first without founding bassist and songwriter Paul Gray,who died in 2010.

Beginning in July, Slipknot will embark on their second North American tour in support of the album. Like-minded metal screamers Lamb of God will join them on the trek, which they've dubbed Summer's Last Stand. "It's always cool to jam with your friends and . . . it's great to tour with bands that kids like," Crahan says. "It just makes it more of a great day for a 'maggot,'" he adds using the name the band has affectionately reserved for Slipknot faithful.

In a brand new interview with RollingStone.com, SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan was asked about his recent comment that he could see the band going forward with a whole new lineup.

"What I've been saying is that only my mind — this is all from me, this isn't from anybody else — I look at it as I'm not going to be able to do this forever," he explained. "I'm 45 years old. Hopefully I can do it until I can't walk. Sometimes I think to myself, because I have new guys and they're so young; the drummer [Jay Weinberg], I could be his dad. He's 24 years old and my daughter is 24 years old. So I look at him and think, 'Fuck, man, I could pound him into shape for the next 20 years and he'd still be fucking young.' And if I wanted to continue to do other things, I could step aside. And what better way to have the young'uns come in and learn the way? And what if SLIPKNOT could be this recycled thought process that is completely on point and just keeps going for life? That would have to be up to all of us, of course, but if people had to step aside and could bust in someone new and it was all there, that would be this band. This band could be something that's never been in this life before."

Slipknot Tweets Teaser for Music Video ‘Killpop’

If you thought Slipknot were finished making videos for .5: The Gray Chapter, then you were happily mistaken. Last year, Slipknot put together chilling clips for the singles “The Negative One” and “The Devil in I,” and now, after an eight-month long music video void, Slipknot is  teasing an upcoming video for “Killpop.”

We’re thankful for Slipknot’s continuation, as we are for the upcoming “Killpop” video! While speaking to Grand Rapids, Mich., radio station WGRD 97.9 FM, Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor spoke about the many interpretations fans conjured up about “Killpop.” “You know, what’s funny [is] over the last few weeks, I’ve really gotten everyone’s interpretation of what that song means to them, and it’s nowhere near what I wrote about,” Taylor says. “So it’s kind of interesting to hear people’s interpretations of what I’m singing about. Slipknot Member Shawn Crahan aka Clown

On Tuesday Slipknot's Clown explains the timetable for their next album. Slipknot's Clown thinks the band's sixth album could appear as early 2017 - also stating their passion for the project is already where it needs to be. Slipknot is in Europe from June 5-20th, and then returns to West Palm Beach, Florida for the summer US Tour with Lamb Of God, Bullet For My Valentine and Motionless In White.starting July 24th. As it sits now, the next album wouldn't start until mid-2016. Also headlining yet another year at the Download festival at Donington, UK.

Clown tells Loudwire: "It takes six months to make a record, so it could be as early as the first quarter of 2017. We're in the rhythm of writing all the time, which is a very helpful tool. It's not anything that won't get used. Usually if we're writing, it's passion."

Slipknot percussionist Clown thinks the band’s sixth album could appear in early 2017 – and he says passion for the project is already there.

Guitarist Jim Root told Metal Hammer earlier this month that it was difficult to say what direction the material would take and that there’s a couple of different ways to approach it – we could approach it like we did Iowa compared to the first release, or we could approach it like picking up where The Subliminal Verses or The Gray Chapter left off. Do we go more aggro, heavy and death metal, or do we go more cerebral, more Pink Floyd, more kind of experimental? It’s hard to say.”

Meanwhile, late bassist Paul Gray is to be remembered at an art exhibition at the band’s home town of Des Moines, Iowa, on June 19-20. Memorabilia on view at the Kum & Go Theater include masks, instruments, photos and more. A memorial book will be on sale, with proceeds going to Gray’s daughter October.
